Eleven states will be holding gubernatorial elections on November 5th. In ten of them, there is a clear favorite candidate, but it’s a different story in New Hampshire. Due to Republican Gov. Chris Sununu’s retirement, New Hampshire will be one of the best pickup opportunities for Democrats this year. In what was expected to be a similar situation for Republicans, Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper of North Carolina is retiring, creating an open seat. However, recent polling has shown that the race isn’t as close as originally thought. Other than New Hampshire, our model finds it very unlikely that any other governorships will flip this year.
